School’s Advisory Board vacancies

Dear SSCM School Parents and Parish Community Members,

At the end of this current school year (2007/2008) our school’s Advisory Board (School Board) will be looking to fill 4 vacancies. Three of these are full three-year terms, while the fourth is the last 2 years of a current three-year term.

The School Advisory Board is a leadership group within the ministry of Catholic education. Some of the responsibilities include:

• Modeling faith community in a spirit of cooperation and interdependence with the pastor and principal
• Adhering to all archdiocesan policies and developing policies at the local level which would enable our school to fulfill its mission
• Assisting the pastor in the search and selection of the principal when a vacancy occurs
• Participating in the Archdiocesan Principal Performance Review Process
• Reviewing and advising on the school budget, tuition rates and other sources of financing
• Developing and reviewing the local board constitution and bylaws
• Participating in the school’s development, student recruitment efforts and long range plans
• Acting as the public relations and marketing arm of the school and its programs
• Participating in ongoing board in-service both at the archdiocesan and local level
• Evaluating annually the board’s effectiveness, productivity and internal operations
• Directing individuals and/or groups to appropriate resources for conflict resolution
• Participating, upon request, in the School Improvement Process
• Monitoring the implementation of the recommendations of the School Improvement Plan
• Supporting the efforts of local legislative action
• Attending the school board’s monthly meetings which occur on the first Tuesday of each month
• Take an active part in any sub-committees that may arise

Our school board should be broadly representative of the Catholic community served by the SSCM School. This includes parents of children enrolled in the school as well as parishioners with no children in school.

School board members must be 21 years of age. No employee of the SSCM School or Parish and no member of the immediate family (spouse, child, parent, brother, sister or in-law) of an employee shall be eligible for membership.

If you are willing to commit yourself to serving on the school board, the SS. Cyril & Methodius School Board is now accepting letters of intent from all interested parishioners. Anyone interested should submit a letter of intent (not more than 100 words) that contains a brief bio stating your credentials and reasons why you would like to be on the school board. All submissions must be received by April 27, 2008. Please send all letters of intent to Bob Gomulka, School Board Vice President c/o the School Office. Candidate will be profiled in the parish bulletin on May 4th and May 11th and the election will be held on May 11th after all the masses.
