Miroslawa Sojka-Topor
Music Director
My name is Miroslawa Sojka Topor, and I am the Director of Music at SS. Cyril and Methodius Parish. I have been at this position since the summer of 2009. In general, I have been an organist for nearly 20 years in various churches.
I feel that music is a very important part of the liturgy. In general, Mass is a well organized and predictable structure, but some of them, like the school and wedding masses might be more interesting and different, causing me to enjoy them the most. I also like to work with people, so my choir members became my good friends over the years.
The first part of my musical life was spent in Poland, where I graduated from Music School in piano that lasted 12 years. After coming to Chicago, I continued my musical education, which led me to achieve my BM from Roosevelt University, and MM from DePaul University in vocal performance.
Besides the church music, I like to perform in various concerts and play different genres of music.
St. Cyril's parish is a constantly growing place with a number of organizations and a bilingual community. My nationality helps me to cooperate with everyone.
My home reminds me of my work place very much, since it keeps me busy the same way. I am a mother of four children and a happily married wife for 16 years. All of my children are musically gifted, so I gave them no choice but to play different instruments. I am not sure if they currently like me for this, but hopefully they will benefit from it in the future.
